Year round illegal fireworks, particularly the aerial types, are wreaking havoc on family farms. Agriculture communities suffer the most from loud cannon-like explosions nearly every night that cause panic, injuries and death to animals, especially livestock. Many cases can be documented by the signers of this petition. Residential areas are affected when dogs and cats are scared and become lost. The random nature of these illegal fireworks make it impossible for owners to protect their animals and farm investment. In many places farmers are surrounded by illegal explosions almost every single evening. Illegal fireworks are largely ignored by local law enforcement. This needs to stop. The law needs to be upheld. People need to feel confident when they report illegal fireworks that action will be taken and the fireworks will not be repeated. When neighborhood residents identify the suspects, police should be given the authority and mandate to act. The current system is simply not working. Please take action to end this animal abuse and help provide an environment where family livestock farms can flourish on the Island of Hawaii.
