I think NOW, May 29, 2020, in light of recent events and circumstances, is a better time than ever to bring back the proposition to change The Tree of Knowledge (A.K.A. “The Hanging Tree”) to the Tree of Life in Arcadia, Florida.

✩｡:*•.───── ❁ ❁ ─────.•*:｡✩

*•* A few months ago, in February, I was banned from Let’s Hear It Arcadia, Florida for proposing to change the name of the Tree of Knowledge to The Tree of Life.

*•* The tree standing in Arcadia RIGHT NOW as a town monument that represents a disgusting history and I feel that is is a perfect representation of the deep hatred that is embedded in the root-system of places like Arcadia.

*•* My original post was met with opposition, a majority of which were arguments stating:

“No one was hung from the tree itself! There was a stand made near the tree!” 

“People were hung BESIDE/UNDER the tree.” 

*•* As a point, the correlation HAS BEEN MADE. The curse of the HISTORY of that town has been CAST upon the tree.

*•* Through PERSONAL, FIRST-HAND experience, there is NOTHING but negativity spewed through a monument the sort of the Tree of Knowledge.

There is absolutely NO PLACE, in America for ANY monument which stands for something as disgusting as the lynching of POC, EVEN if the ones protecting it protect it under the sentiment of “YOU CAN’T ERASE HISTORY!”

• Growing up in the town of Arcadia (and I’m sure this statement can be supported by many), one realizes there is a DEEP-SET problem with inequality. One problem that I and others have been personally effected by.

✩｡:*•.───── ❁ ❁ ─────.•*:｡✩

In the year 2020, there is NO room for a monument where POC were hanged in a town with a known and active KKK.
It’s disgusting and this type of behavior and idolization of the town’s past is disgusting.

I agree, we should not erase history, but there needs to be documented, stand-still events and changes that show that the people of the City of Arcadia will stand up for what’s right.
No longer is it acceptable to turn a blind eye to the equality problems that infest the town and frankly, infect the nation.

• The Tree of Knowledge is the perfect first step to CHANGE in the sentiment of Arcadia, something that is MUCH needed.

• 2020 is the perfect year for change.

• The events of THIS year, to me, are perfect reason for an “enough is enough” mentality.
