Ordinance that Requires Body Cams for All St. Petersburg Police Officers

The Issue

St Petersburg Police Department is one of the few remaining Law Enforcement department that resisted accountability via the use of body cams. The Chief of police, Anthony Holloway, had 5 years to test and implement body cams. After 5 years the Chief wants to implement a version of body cams that will only record if and when the officer draws his/her weapon. The city of St. Petersburg Police Department has notoriously abused their authority for decades. The last excessive force display of the department that was captured on cell phone video, dated March 2020. This solution will not stop the abuse of power and the lack of civil liberty in our city. The Chief of Police should not be in charge of recommending which type of accountability his police force requires. This task should be left to the city council members. As a victim of St. Petersburg Police Department officers, with one of this officer currently doing prison time for child porn, we can't trust the chief to police its own. As a matter of fact this is the issue here, the mayor is delegating its citizen' safety to the hands of known and proven abusers. The City Council should require the Police Department to wear Body Cams that record at all times. Let's stop the abuse.
