The current administration has shut down Honolulu's Legacy Outdoor Art Gallery "Art on the Zoo Fence". The parks and recreation department  is not reissuing the permit and may not ever reissue it at this point, they are calling us an "art mart". This show has been the starting point for artists since 1953 and is really the only affordable art show for many artists, and collectors. This is a family friendly show with painters, drawers, graphic artists and photographers. People could walk along the fence and peruse art every weekend (weather permitting). Families on the way to the zoo, travelers visiting the island and even locals wanting to support local artists without having to pay gallery prices.

The parks say they are not issuing the permit because of Covid-19! Our outdoor socially distanced show... Most of the artists count on this income either as a little extra or even as a primary business. This is the smallest of small businesses and no positive outcome can be achieved by closing this venue. Please if you are an artist or fan of the arts I implore you to sign this petition to let them know arts and artists matter and closing down this legacy art show is not good for the community. If this goes away it's just the beginning of the shuttering of other art venues.
