Kelly's Westport Inn located at 500 Westport Rd, is known to many people as a popular bar hangout and one of Kansas City's oldest buildings but many do not know their deep connection to the Transatlantic slave trade.  Kelly's Inn was formally known as the Albert G Boone Store in the late 1800s. The store detained slaves in their basement while they waited to be auctioned to slaveholders.  The building structure of Kelly's has never been renovated & the presences of this slave dwelling still exist in their basement.  Infrastructure that is a representation and reminder of America's past atrocities against black people has no place in today's society.  In 2015, after the bombing of a black church in South Carolina by white supremacist Dylan Roof, several confederate symbols across the South were removed.  The removal of landmarks that represent slavery is essential in helping America heal from their atrocious past. Help persuade Mayor Lucas that  Kelly's Westport Inn is a representation of slavery and should be shut down completely.
