Proclaim November as Hip Hop History Month in Oklahoma City
The Issue
The Hip Hop Declaration of Peace guides Hip Hop Culture toward freedom from violence, and establishes advice and protection for the existence and development of the international Hip Hop community. The Hip Hop Declaration of Peace was presented to the United Nations on May 16, 2001. It was signed by various organizations and artist. A few organizations that took part in creating this declaration were; The Universal Zulu Nation, The Temple of Hip Hop, Ribbons International, The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, along with 300 Hip Hop activist, pioneers and UN delegates.
The Hip Hop Declaration of Peace is made up of 18 principles that establish a foundation of Health, Love, Awareness, Wealth, peace and prosperity for ourselves, our children and their children’s children forever.
The Ninth Principle of the Hip Hop Declaration of Peace outlines special days, weeks, and a month throughout the year dedicated to Hip Hop Culture. The Ninth Principle states that November is Hip Hop History month. It further states; “During this time Hiphoppas are encouraged to participate in the creating, learning and honoring of Hip Hop’s history and historical cultural contributors.”
We, the Oklahoma Zulus, are creating this petition to gather support in proposing to Mick Cornett, Mayor of Oklahoma City, to proclaim November as Hip Hop History Month in the city of Oklahoma City. True Hip Hop Culture has nothing to do with violence, breaking laws, or corrupting the minds of the youth. True Hip Hop Culture is about Peace, Love, Unity, and Having Fun which are also the principles of the First Family of Hip Hop the Universal Zulu Nation.
There is a deep history of Hip Hop Culture here in Oklahoma City and throughout the state. This deep history is somewhat unknown to many throughout the city and state. By proclaiming November as Hip Hop History Month in Oklahoma City, we will celebrate the rich Hip Hop Culture we have in the city, and also educate those who may not have known previously about it. We would also be joining countless other cities and organizations that have joined the international Hip Hop community in celebrating November as Hip Hop History Month.
Please sign and share this petition. We thank you for your time. Continue to help us preserve this wonderful culture! Peace.
Very Respectfully,
Oklahoma Zulus
