Reinstate Catford's missing pedestrian/cycle bridge - Catford Green to Doggett Road SE6

Reinstate Catford's missing pedestrian/cycle bridge - Catford Green to Doggett Road SE6

The Issue

The 1st phase of Catford's ongoing Regeneration related to the redevelopment of the former Catford Greyhound Stadium site - a project undertaken by private developer London Barratt with nearly 600 new residential units built by 2017.

The site is separated from a direct link to Catford Centre by the Hayes railway line with Doggett Road/Holbeach Primary School on the other side.

The original planning permission provided an excellent plan to demolish the existing bridge link to the Stadium site and then reinstate it with a new bridge situated midway in the development and closer to Catford Bridge railway station. The bridge would be open to all pedestrians and cyclists as a new public highway and would have resolved the long overdue and unsustainable East/West direct route for all made via the polluted and congested South Circular Road via Catford Bridge with a 'green' link alternative.

Instead, the old bridge was demolished and Mayor and Cabinet voted in Sept 2020 to entirely drop any intention to reinstate it. This leaves the entire development at Catford Green essentially cut off from the proposed direct link to Catford Centre and the Catford Framework Plan with fundamentally flawed access issues.
