Keep San Diego parks and playgrounds open to the public.

The Issue

San Diego grants permits to organizations and groups allowing them to use public parks and beaches for a variety of events. These organizations frequently will put up fences and prevent residents from using the recreation facilities (e.g playgrounds or basketball courts)  without paying an admission fee.  This practice  is in violation of San Diego Municipal code Article 3 chapter 6 on use of playgrounds and recreation areas which states: "Organized and sponsored athletic teams may be assigned exclusive use of playgrounds or recreational areas for the carrying on and conducting of athletic contests and exhibitions, at which the public shall be admitted without charge, except that voluntary contributions may be collected under the direct supervision of such Park and Recreation Director at such contests."

I want to petition our City officials to enforce the existing law and require that permit holders allow residents to be admitted without charge to use the public facilities to include playgrounds so that our children and families can enjoy the facilities our tax dollars pay for.

The picture is of my son enjoying the playground, which he wasn't allowed to do because of the boat races this weekend.
