After traveling from Anderson County, SC to Horry County for magistrate court expecting to have their family pet dog "Ogie" returned to them as the rightful owners, this Anderson County, SC family, the Butts were devastated and in disbelief when were only told to return yet again in May. The judge allowed no comments or questions and only stated a jury trial had been granted as requested by rescue director. A 5 hour trip one way and expense of an overnight stay, losing wages from work, not to mention the emotional stress on the Butts family, 2/10 hour round trips to only return home, yet again, to their eagerly awaiting children without family pet "Ogie" their golden retriever. Now to afford hiring an attorney and make another 10 hr round trip(for the third time)plus hotel and travel expense to get the family Golden Retriever that is rightfully and lawfully theirs. An expense they cannot easily afford but have no choice because this is a member of their family. Please continue to share this family's story and continue to keep them and "Ogie" in your thoughts and prayers. I have to wonder what poor "Ogie" is feeling and thinking...he loves his family and other family pets and his home. Just as they love him. No matter how much this group claims to love dogs or want what is in their opinion is best for animals they take in..."Ogie " was not in need of rescue and they are mere strangers to him...and he undoubtedly is homesick and confused why he has been taken away and no allowed to return to the only home he has ever known. Keep in mind also a lost, stolen or an escaped pet does not mean a negligent owner, nor does it equal a stray neglected unloved animal, or an uncared for animal. There are hundreds of very loved, happy, healthy pets and loving caring responsible owners daily seeking each other because a door is accidentally left ajar, a gate not secured as thought, pets dig under fences, climb over fences, break leashes at parks....just take a look at the desperate lost and found pages. Be thankful if this has never happened to you. But if it has or ever does should you have your pet taken away by strangers and be treated as an negligent unfit owner? Should you have to go through this ordeal to have your pet returned? What if there was absolutely no conceivable way you could afford all the expense and travel this family has been faced with to get your pet? What then? You would have to lose your pet to someone who has no right to keep it it through no fault of your own, and be able to do nothing about it. Very sad actions coming from a group that call themselves humane.
