Currently, Middletown is not a TNR town, which means that any cats that the Monmouth County SPCA deems unadoptable, and are unable to find placement for, are sadly euthanized. The MCSPCA has a program that is known as a Backyard Buddy Program, which allows us to place feral cats from towns that do not allow us to trap, neuter/spay, and release (TNR). The team at the MCSPCA works rigorously to find placement for these stray cats. However, there are a limited amount of slots that are there to place cats, and many are saved for feral moms after they give birth and their babies have been weaned off. Unfortunately, we are pressed on time, being that we have become at such high capacity, and we are left with no choice but to euthanize them.

There is such a simple solution to this issue, and it is to be apart of the TNR program that the MCSPCA has initiated. Surrounding towns have become apart of this program, and it allows these feral cats to live out the rest of their lives as they once were before being trapped. Being that the human species are the ones who domesticated felines, we should be responsible for taking care of them. With all going on in the world, it is very important to remember that we are here on this earth WITH them. It is our responsibility to care and co-exist with them, not to attempt to eliminate their species.
