Make Windrush Day on 22 June a national holiday

The Issue

Windrush Day was introduced in 2018 to mark the 70th anniversary of the Windrush  migration. Windrush Day is not  a bank holiday; it is a day of observation on the 22nd day of June.

It would be right and proper for the UK government to recognise, respect and honour the contribution of the Windrush migrants to UK society over the past 72 years by making 22nd day of June each year a national holiday.

Having Windrush Day on 22 June each year as a national holiday would enable communities across the UK to formally recognize and celebrate the contribution of West Indian migrants and their descendants to British society and would be a symbol of the acceptance of Black British people in British society.
