The constant burning of the rubbish dump on the corner of Christiaan de Wet and Hendrik Potgieter roads is not only causing major air pollution but also a health risk to people staying in the area.  A very wide area of Constantia Kloof, Weltevredenpark and other areas of Roodepoort and Randburg gets affected by this constant burning rubbish dump. 

The air pollution penetrates living spaces and probably also shopping spaces in the area.  It has an impact on certain people's breathing in the areas. With Covid in our midst, as well as others suffering from lung conditions, this is an unwanted and unwarranted burden to these people.

This dump is also illegally being used as dumping site for gardeners, business, private individuals and the people collecting waste that they sorted on the dumping site.

This polluting of the air and allowing people to illegally use it for private/personal dumping has been going on unabated for too long.  This needs to be resolved permanently and as a matter of urgency.  

There has been no serious attempt from the City of Johannesburg to find a permanent solution and to stop the illegal dumping that comes with it.  This is even more concerning as this site borders many residential areas.  

Getting this resolved permanently will have health benefits to the people and environmental benefits to the community that have been plagued by this constant problem.
