The Issue

At some point in your life, you will likely be touched by suicide. Whether this is due to your own thoughts and actions, or the thoughts and actions of a friend or family member, statistically It will happen. More often than not by the time you realize a loved one needs help, it’s too late.

The Monroe Street Bridge has claimed the lives of far too many of Spokane’s citizens. Suicide is the 2nd most common cause of death in the US for people between 10 and 34. You read that correctly, 10 years old.

Because of city/state codes and regulations, a fence or netting can not be placed on the Monroe St. Bridge, but we can place cards and notes of support. Reminders to that person who may be standing on the brink of death, that their life matters to someone. Cards with the suicide prevention hotline number, cards saying “please don’t, we love you and you matter.”

The Monroe Street Bridge of Hope’s goal is to have permanent placards installed on the railing of the bridge. It is our plan to change the perspective of the bridge from what many people know as the “Suicide Bridge” to the “Bridge of Hope”.

It is our hope that with enough signatures we can go before the council and get the OK to do this.

Please sign this petition and show your support for this project.

Let’s not let that bridge take 1 more life.
