My name is Nya Nesmith, I am a Black rising senior that attends the Charter School of Wilmington. Some community members and I had an idea to potentially paint a Black Lives Matter mural on the street similar to the ones that are happening in cities all over the US and originally started in DC. We as a community had two places in mind; the Riverfront area (considering that is where the largest protest just occurred) or potentially Market Street. I think this would be a great way to make those in the black community feel welcomed and it would show to those that visit our city, that Wilmington is a city that welcomes all and supports the black community.
