Dear reader, I am writing you this afternoon with an honest concern and appreciate your support. I am a Manhattan Beach native, born and raised. I have frequented El Porto almost daily for the past 20 years to surf and enjoy the weather with friends & family. One thing that has always frustrated me since 1994 are the public family restrooms behind tower 42. As a kid I was disgusted stepping foot into those restrooms as there is no ventilation, no drains for wet floors which are covered in water and urine. There are tons of flies that swarm the bathroom because of the stagnant, horrid smell of urine and other feces. It is a seriously unsafe & unwelcoming condition. The sinks have tons of rust that have stained the sinks and walls running from the pipes down the tiled walls to the disgusting cement floors that lack any drainage. The hot and cold water fixtures are deteriorating and for the most part are broken making it difficult to wash your hands for hygenic purposes. I am 34 years old and would refuse to allow a child of mine to enter those premises, and would warn off ANY child for that matter in using this public family restroom. Here are a few more reasons why I wouldn't ever in a trillion years allow my child to use those restrooms: the bathroom stalls offer zero privacy, they have no doors that shut and lock, they have a small short 4 foot wood barrier that separate each toilet from the other as though I was using a restroom during the Vietnam war. What I find absolutely horrible is that there are small holes cut/drilled out making it possible for predators & perverts to look through to the other stall allowing the predator to watch myself, you, your children or any other child to fall victim of a spying pervert. There are perverse GLORY HOLES drilled out to offer sexual encounters for predators to lure in others. I have seen craigslist ads posted with times for these perverts to arrange sexual encounters with one another using these specific bathrooms & glory holes. I am Wes Michaels, an established recording artist & public figure that will not stop until I see a change. I prayed that the city would remodel these bathrooms while the city of MB rebuilt the El Porto parking lots, but it was over looked. I am reaching out to you first, then I will create a petition and get the entire Southbay behind me. You are the Mayor and I understand you can make this happen. Please assist me before I petition to the entire city to make this change while noting that you did not help. Please do not take me being so forward as a sign of disrespect yet as a true sign of concern.
