Adopt a smoking ordinance in Mountain View, CA that protects multi-unit residences
The Issue
The city of Mountain View, CA does not currently have any ordinances that protect residents of apartments and condos (multi-unit residences) from smoking.
Unfortunately that means if your landlord or HOA doesn't have any explicit rules about smoking, it's perfectly legal for your neighbor to smoke near your windows and doors.
If your landlord or HOA doesn't want to adopt any rules, and if your neighbors don't want to be mindful of your health, then you are expected to accommodate them.
This is unacceptable for our health and quality of living, especially as we are spending increasing amounts of time at home due to COVID-19.
We, the residents of Mountain View, CA and those who work and travel to private residences in the city, are asking the city leaders to enact an ordinance that prohibits smoking in multi-unit residences.
The county and many of the cities within the county have already adopted similar ordinances to protect their residents who live in close proximity to each other.
Santa Clara County
Saratoga
Santa Clara
Los Gatos
Sunnyvale
Palo Alto
These ordinances define exactly where smoking is allowed or not allowed, who is responsible for enforcing them, and also provides details on how to establish a smoking area for people to use.
Without this ordinance, we are sending the message that any resident who does not want to breath second-hand smoke is expected to accommodate those who do.
Please help show your support and convince Mountain View to protect our health!
