As most of you may know, Mayor Lori Lightfoot gave CPD’s payroll department $281.5 Million out of our Pandemic fund. It was to help out with extra hours to cover wellness checks on residents, airport security and security at McCormick place for testing centers.

Here we are, begging for our Mayor to clear our streets of snow and waiting for it to melt, so we don’t have to worry about digging multiple times a week, and she just gives up $281.5 Million to CPD out of all places. She couldn’t give some of that to DSS to conduct snow cleaning for us?

$281.5 Million isn’t chump change. It’s a enormous amount. I never want to hear anyone say “snow cleaning is impossible because the city is broke”. We were never broke. People are just greedy and spending the money however they want, instead of for the actual needs of Chicago.

Do we really need extra security at O’hare and McCormick Place, at our testing sites? Never mind what is important to Chicagoans. It’s what’s important to you dear Mayor. It doesn’t benefit our city long term. This here, petition, is a city long term benefit. How about you make a donation out of the city’s money to that. I mean, you just put $65 Million of the Pandemic funds into our 2021 budget, in addition to what we already have.
