Submit and approve changes to the current police contract to ensure police accountability.

The Issue

We as residents in Lexington, Kentucky want to ensure the safety and well-being of our children and our families when encountering officers employed by the Lexington Police Department.

Currently, the collective bargaining agreement aka police contract between LFUCG, LPD, and Bluegrass Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No 4, excessively limits police disciplinary action, and the creation and retention of documentation and discipline of problematic officers, and allows for no community input in the discipline process. We are asking that changes to the police contract, allowed within the limits of KRS statutes be made. Our safety depends on it

1. Stop “preventing information on past misconduct investigations from being recorded or retained in an officer’s personnel file.”

2. Stop “limiting disciplinary consequences for officers or limiting the capacity of civilian oversight structures and/or the media to hold police accountable.”
