Immediate Safety Improvements for 35th Ave

Immediate Safety Improvements for 35th Ave
The Issue
On 35th, the stretch between McArthur and Foothill is a freeway! Cars exit the 580 on 35th and treat it like a racetrack. Southbound is a continuous slope with almost nothing to slow you down; the stop lights are memorials; Jeremiah and, my brother, Deontae. Northbound is a climb, with poor visibility on both sides of the sidewalk. Trees block the street sighs and cover the sidewalks with darkness in the evening; try crossing 35th at night and see how long it takes on a Friday night. Since 2016 four people have died in auto collisions on this stretch of road. The City has identified 35th as a an High Injury Corridor, one of the places where 60% of server and fatal injuries happen on only 6% of the streets.
TODAY, 8/29/2018, a car ran into an apartment on 35th and Brookdale!
The need for change is NOW tomorrow might be too late. My brother died on this street, so my family has a significant interest in preventing future tragedies; we don’t want ANY other family to go through what we’ve been through. We demand that the city make these changes immediately:
1.Increased Police Enforcement of existing traffics/ parking Laws.
2.Transform 35th ave into a Safety Corridor where traffic / parking fines are doubled, until future traffic improvement are made.
3.Cut/ trim tree branches along 35th ave to increase visibility of posted street signs and .
4.Place Radar Speed Signs at places where fatal injuries have occurred; Penniman, Brookdale, Paxton and Galindo.
5.Repaint the crosswalk so that night time visibility is increased.
The changes we proposed do not require engineers or major planning considerations; they can be made immediately!
