Save Lewis G. Larus Park

The City of Richmond, VA is currently proposing leasing 1.5 acres of Larus Park for $1 per year to Chesterfield County in order to construct a 2 million gallon water tank. We as Richmond City and surrounding counties residents oppose this proposal. Conservation of Larus Park and all urban parks is tremendously important. This is a beautiful property that was donated to the City of Richmond for the enjoyment of hiking and exploring in an urban landscape that is constantly expanding. Our beautiful park undeveloped can add more value to the community than the revenue it will generate. Other cities have developed programs for youth and disadvantaged utilizing urban parks by teaching them job preparation skills through team-building activities such as park maintenance and wilderness survival. Quoted from the Urban Institute: "As parks expand their roles...public support increases, promising to create a self-reinforcing process." Every single acre of our park is essential to the continuing progress of our community. Mayor Stoney, help save Larus Park!
