NO to Mask Ordinance Greenville, SC

NO to Mask Ordinance Greenville, SC
The Issue
Masks have been a controversial debate. The Science not settled showing if it has or will slow the spread of COVID-19 transmission. In fact not all health professionals agree on masks. If healthy people are not in a setting of taking care of the sick they should not be mandated a face covering . Recent studies have also questioned the case of asymptomatic carriers. Some residents choose to wear them and some do not, both should be respected. However, there are residents who want and ordinance mandate for all out of respect and courtesy. We ask when does the impeding on individual Freedoms end? When does it cross the line? How long will it be? To what degree? What implications will come along with it. In other states that have mandated these protocols they have claimed the person/s will not be forced if they have a medical condition. A lot of new residents who have moved to the area can attest this is not true. Many have been denied even getting essential items for their families, have been physical and verbally attacked by others. Some have been threatened to be fined, arrested and discriminated against. Do not think this will not occur in SC. Another question no one seems to be talking about is what will happen with the disabled? Many can not wear them for medical, sensory or other reasons. Will they be shunned because a few want a one size fit all on questionable information? By mandating masks as a one size fits all will also be violating the people's constitutional rights. In any crisis our country has faced we must remember those rights do not go away, they do not go on pause. Our Constitution is always there and must remain. Some have stated many states across the country have mandated masks, that Columbia, Charleston and Greenville are leading the way in South Carolina with mask ordinances. I think Greenville can bet better then this. I think there is a way to keep the public health and also uphold the indiviudals rights. Forcing face coverings is not the answer.
Most people are not happy about this implementation by local government and many will not comply. What will happen then? Arrests? Fines? Denial of essential living, services? Where will this all lead? The Governor has stated he will not mandate it for the state and he will not close the state down again. We believe it is not time to start nannying the people of South Carolina. People are responsible, can and should be trusted to make responsible decisions. Suggestions can be made but no mandates. We are writing this because we are asking Mayor White and City Council of Greenville, SC to NOT pass a mask ordinance. There are many downfalls that will effect a one size fits all decision and it will benefit noone in the end. Once Freedoms are removed they are not returned and people will remember who enforced it. Choice and Freedom should always be first and respected in this country. Public health starts with an individual's right to choose. Encouragement, no mandates, no discrimination.
Trust the people of South Carolina.
