Affectionately called "Chip," the Confederate monument on the square in Franklin, Tennessee has stood as a beautiful symbol of history since 1899. The citizens of Franklin, as well as our many visitors, love "Chip." The statue and land beneath it are owned by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, so that it cannot be moved by any government. Yet, we initiate this petition to our friend, Dr. Ken Moore, mayor of Franklin, to affirm our commitment that we want the statue to remain where it has been since its dedication 118 years ago. We need this petition so that we can show the support we have from our hometown, and from all those who come to visit our wonderful little town. Your signature matters a lot, and is appreciated.
