“I’ve extensively discussed the armouries option again with our professional staff… and they have agreed that this is not a desirable option or the most desirable option for a number of reasons,” Tory said.
Tory did not elaborate on what was unsuitable about the armouries, except perhaps that it displays massive failure on the part of the city to handle the homelessness emergency.
The mayor also said while it has been suggested that he should declare an emergency over the lack of shelter beds, he does not believe it would be appropriate under the circumstances.
Instead Tory proposes to add 400 more 'spaces' to already overcrowded shelters and to search for a sixth drop-in site to become yet another 24 hour floor for people to sleep on.
Please come out on Tuesday to support the human right for shelter.
