In a powerful CBC Metro Morning interview front-line Out of the Cold volunteer Rafi Aaron outlines that years of neglect in Toronto's shelter system have resulted in an overcapacity emergency that is gut wrenching, especially because Out of the Colds are now, for the first time in 30 years, reporting they have to turn people away. Over the next month the city will lose 800 spaces per week in the Out of the Cold as it shuts down for the season. The city's own statistics show that approximately 500 people are already sleeping outside. The housing shortage also means many refugees are stuck in an overburdened shelter system. Mayor Tory where is your compassion? Where is your leadership?
