Social distancing is an oxymoron for homeless people.

This petition pleads for Mayor Tory and City Council to: "Make a formal statement declaring that homelessness and the social housing situation are an emergency necessitating immediate action." 

Too bad city council voted twice to not declare a state of emergency on homelessness.

Here we are today in a pandemic. According to infectious disease expert Dr. Aaron Orkin, "Homeless people have a dramatically elevated risk of death" and if the Coronavirus hits the Toronto shelter system there could be hundreds of deaths.

Leilani Farha is making the point that housing is the main frontline defense against COVID-19. We will need extraordinary measures including expropriation, pre-fabs, the use of empty residences and more to save lives. Tell your elected representatives.
