Emergency petition delivered to Mayor Tory. Petition continues. Next target: 35,000.

Yesterday, the 25,000 target signature goal was met during the Toronto Homeless Memorial where the 1000th name was added marking a travesty in shelter and housing policy by all levels of government.

After the memorial, about 100 people held a silent march to Mayor Tory's office where 9 year old Maxine delivered the petition to the Mayor's staff. Earlier in the day her mother and others read the names in a city hall committee meeting. (it begins at approximately 1:36)

In this picture Rafi Aaron, from the Interfaith Coalition to Fight Homelessness begins the public reading of the 1000 names outside the Mayor's office. It carried on for a very long time with various clergy, advocates, including homeless people, reading the deadly list.
