The Issue

Tower Hamlets council, with investment from government, are closing roads to traffic so as to allow cyclists to use them. They are calling this ‘greener London.’

Surrounding streets near Old Bethnal Green Road, Mansford Street, Pollards Row to mention just a few have gridlocked.

This system is failing as this is moving traffic onto surrounding roads and creating bottlenecks. These roads are now jammed with traffic but not many cyclists are seen using these roads. There are pictures of an ambulance that cannot get through this traffic where before the changes they could.

The Ambulance Service and the Fire service have warned that this will make response times longer, how would you feel if your family member had for example a heart attack and the Ambulance is stuck on a gridlocked oneway system or blocked road? I have been made of aware of an Ambulance that attended a scene on Mansford Street which hit a bell bollard when dealing with an emergency incident.

This new policy is going to cause deaths, urgent action is required before lives are lost. Pollution has increased and we have achieved the opposite of what we set out to accomplish.

The government need to know that this is causing

1 Increase in emergency services response times.

2 More unclean air as traffic sits in jams with engines running.

3 Making deliveries impossible

4 Making people who need taxis to get to their home over immobile problems not be able to get a cab to their doorstep so as making them housebound.

Pollution has increased, congestion has increased, emergency services have and will continue to have decreased response times.
