Petition to change the law & keep K9 Ajax where he belongs, with his retired partner!!

This petition made change with 27,075 supporters!

Officer Matthew Hickey has had K-9 Ajax for the past 4 years working alongside each other keeping Marietta safe. Officer Hickey has recently retired from the Marietta Police Department after over 30 years of excellent service to the city. Originally the city gave Hickey the ability to "purchase" Ajax for $3,500, but then rescinded the offer. Now Ajax is being put up for auction to the highest bidder. The city has insisted their hands are tied due to a current state law (Ohio Revised Code 721.15) that classifies Ajax as "property" and thus is governed by the auction requirement.. This very same situation happened in Montgomery County, MD last year with a K9 named Chip and a petition like this obtained almost a quarter of a million signatures. Ultimately, Chip was returned to his handler to live out his retirement at Home where he belonged, It's still not known exactly why the County changed their mind and whether the petition had any part in that decision but we can't sit back and do nothing! I have dogs myself and if someone tried to separate us after four years, not only would it kill me but my dogs would literally grieve themselves to death. So I encourage you to sign this petition which will be delivered to the City Mayor and Council. (By the way, there is also "gofundme" account to raise funds to bid at the planned auction for Ajax - Thank-you in advance for your support and may God Bless and protect our men, women and K9's in blue!
