In a September 22nd story carried by local Fox News, CollegeAvenueIndy.org learned that IndyGo is starting to falter and may not have a back up plan if the November referendum is defeated, or if it is approved by voters but later denied by the council. In the Fox article, IndyGo spokesman Bryan Luellen said that “The Red Line is moving forward regardless of the outcome of the referendum.” Luellen suggests that “The referendum is about building out the rest of the IndyGo system.” Regardless of the referendum and funding issues, IndyGo apparently thinks it can proceed with constructing the Red Line, including tearing up College Avenue and opening the door to unwanted development projects along the College Avenue corridor. CollegeAvenueIndy.org wonders how IndyGo can ignore the wishes of local voters and taxpayers. Is this a democracy or will taxpayers have to file an injunction to protect themselves from a rogue public transportation corporation that appears to have been taken over by development interests and an ill-conceived urbanism fad?
