Keep the City of Green Bay's Stray Animal Hold at 7 days!

Keep the City of Green Bay's Stray Animal Hold at 7 days!
The Issue
On March 1st 2016, Governor Walker signed into law Senate bill 450. This new law changed the stray hold time in the State of Wisconsin from 7 days to 4 days. With the law as is, your lost pet may now be adopted out or transferred to other shelters or rescues after just 4 days. We feel the citizens of Green Bay and their pets are better served with the additional time to find their lost pets. We have continued to hold pets for the previously required 7 days, and agree with Alderman Jerry Wiezbiskie who wrote a resolution to keep Green Bay at a 7 day hold. This petition is for citizens to help voice their support for Alderman Wiezbiskie's resolution to keep the City of Green Bay at a 7 day hold for stray animals.
Our own local humane society supports the 4 day hold because they feel most pets are reclaimed in four days, and those that aren't claimed can then be adopted out faster. We, and many other area shelters such as Fox Valley Humane Association, feel that the average reclaim time, particularly in cats, is supportive of a longer stray hold. Four days for a pet owner who is out of town for a long holiday weekend or any number of other circumstances, may simply not be enough time to find a lost pet. Ultimately, the citizens of Green Bay would be better served with the additional time to find their pets.
