Regardless of ambiguities about the provenance of its design, the 'Round House' pavilion stands on its own as a visually striking mid-century modern 'googie-style' building and — most importantly — provides an intergenerational sense of place, unlike any other present day feature of the Columbus Square Park. I'll go further and say frankly that without it, the new design for the park is a fairly generic, contemporary Anytown USA creation. The pavilion is a worthy neighborhood focal point as it stands, a role it should continue in the revamped park, even if not currently utilized. Certainly an eventual reuse is not an impractical goal.

Interestingly, when an architectural historian, employed by Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, submitted a Historic Resource Survey Form in 2016 to the Pennsylvania Museum & Historical Commission, he concluded that due to loss of historic integrity from several sweeping major redesigns of the square through its history, there was no basis to make Columbus Square as a whole eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places — there was little remaining to reflect any particular 'period of significance.'

On the other hand, he did discuss the 'Round House' at some length and in 2017 the PHMC determined that structure is eligible for inclusion in the National Register, though it hasn't been formally nominated as of yet.
