Sailing club needs you!
The time has come to present our petition in person to the Morehead City Town Council. The town council meeting is this coming Tuesday 1/13/15, upstairs in the old police station on the Morehead waterfront (202 S. 8th St), starting at 5:30 pm. The more people that stand up and voice their opinions in the open comments section, asking for the overnight boat storage ban to be reconsidered, the better. To date, 211 people (including 66 Morehead City residents) think the actions of the Council were wrong and support reversing the ban on overnight storage at S. 11th St. In August 2014 we presented our petition to the Council by email and tried to obtain a response, requesting that they reconsider the ban or at least address the fact that many Morehead City residents believe the ban was a mistake. We received no response! Don’t continue to let your voices be ignored by your elected officials! If you value sailing club and the idea of free community sailing, please let the Council know at Tuesday’s meeting!
For those of you who aren’t aware, the ban essentially shut down our free and open to the public local sailing group. South 11th St. was one of the last places in Carteret County where you could leave and launch a small sailboat. Of course, nothing is as simple as it seems, and as soon as sailing club was essentially shut down, the neighboring property owner who had complained about the boat storage immediately began building on the adjacent lot. Why can’t adjacent development be compatible with overnight boat storage and the continuation of the unique community resource that was sailing club?
This is the time to let the Council know that the majority of the town is in favor of continued boat storage and community sailing at S. 11th St.! Are they going to ignore 66 Morehead City residents that have signed this petition over the will of 2 selfish property owners that appear to be only interested in building and selling?
See you there!
