Oppose any compromise with QACC regarding ADU FEIS appeal

Oppose any compromise with QACC regarding ADU FEIS appeal
The Issue
Dear Mayor Durkan,
MOAR is strongly opposed to any compromise with Queen Anne Community Council regarding Accessory Dwelling Units.
QACC have stalled the changes that would allow more flexibility in designing and building DADUs and ADUs. They are a small minority of homeowners who have abused the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) process to delay these changes.
The QACC appeal website is filled with factually incorrect information in order to appeal to people's emotions to raise money to pay their lawyer.
We have begun the process of creating a side by side comparison to help educate others the extent to which the QACC appeal website contains misleading information. QACC have done little to no citywide outreach, they do not have the majority of City of Seattle residents on their side, and again are a small, wealthy minority who have the time and money to appeal.
The Final Environmental Impact Statement from the city should be the determining document for future legislation.
Please do not give in to the QACC demands.
We strongly urge you to allow the appeal process to move forward without compromise and to support all of the preferred alternative outlined in the Final EIS for DADUs/ ADUs.
Thank you.
About Us:
More Options for Accessory Residences (MOAR), is a group of Seattle area residents concerned with the future of the city, housing availability and affordability. We have diverse backgrounds, experiences and housing situations, but we’re all Seattleites who want our city to allow more options for accessory residences because:
- People should be able to afford housing and still have enough money for the basics like groceries & child care.
- Everyone should have the opportunity to live in a safe, healthy, affordable home.
- Children deserve a chance to succeed in school and in life, which all begins with their family being able to afford a decent place to live.
- Neighborhoods near parks, jobs and educational opportunities are the best places to increase housing options
- Putting people close to transit is key to reducing our carbon footprint and the impacts of climate change
- ADUs are great for aging in place, downsizing, for young families, for owners looking for rental income for retirement for example.
- Communities of opportunity should not be off limits to a variety of housing types and housing choices.
