Hello, supporter of a Safer 35th Ave:
We are writing with a brief update on the 35th Ave repaving and safety project. Construction starts this week, which makes it hard to believe that YOUR VOCAL LAST-MINUTE SUPPORT IS URGENTLY NEEDED TO ENSURE THE PROJECT IS COMPLETED!
In March, you signed our petition to encourage the City to move forward with the 35th repaving and safety project, and it looked like we were good to go: the mayor signed off on it, and transportation officials set a start date.
But Opponents have ramped up a last surge of activity in recent weeks, and continue to claim they speak for the whole neighborhood in opposing the safety project. Since they couldn’t win at the city level, they went to the state, and asked for a meeting with the state legislators for the 46th district.
To be clear: this is a hail-mary tactic, hoping to get the project stalled. We need to match their last-minute effort with a strong show of support TOMORROW, to let our legislators know that Save 35th doesn’t speak for everyone.
HOW TO HELP
The legislators (Sen. Frockt and Reps Valdez and Pollet) have set a second meeting for tomorrow at 3:45 pm at the NE Seattle library.
If you support the project, please show up and let the state legislators know.
Tuesday, June 12, 3:45 to 5pm at the NE Seattle Library (on 35th)
Also, please email the legislators (especially if you can’t make the meeting)
Gerry.Pollet@leg.wa.gov, Javier.Valdez@leg.wa.gov, David.Frockt@leg.wa.gov
Let them know you live in the district and support the project; and share any personal experiences regarding 35th Ave.
If you can’t make it to the physical meeting, let them know that too.
In light of freshly stoked controversy about the project from the opponents, we encourage everyone who can spare a minute in the next few days to email council member Johnson and Mayor Durkan to affirm support of the project (jenny.durkan@seattle.gov; Rob.Johnson@seattle.gov).
We’re looking forward to a Safer 35th!
