City of Carmel Cultural Reforms

City of Carmel Cultural Reforms

The Issue

Our goal is to make the city of Carmel a more welcoming and inclusive place for ALL its residents, as well as anyone who visits or is travelling through the city. Unfortunately the city has had a history with racial profiling in policing, a lack of racial equity in it's schools, and a lack of representation of people of color within the city itself.

In order to create an actively "anti-racist" environment in the city, we are calling upon Mayor Brainard and the Carmel City Council to implement the following measures:

  • Call on Mayor Brainard to Meet with a DIVERSE Panel of Carmel Residents Quarterly on How to Make Carmel a More Inclusive City.

  • Launching of an Initiative to Make Carmel More Accepting of People of Color, Including but NOT Limited to The Representation of People of Color in the Statues on Main Street and Throughout the Arts District.

  • Call on Mayor Brainard to Provide Political Support for the Education and Policing Reforms That Are Being Requested by Carmel Against Racial Injustice

These reforms will only strengthen the city of Carmel for ALL residents and further improve its reputation.  Additionally, it will yield wide-ranging social and economic benefits to the city, including the further attraction of business owners of color to the city.
