The current situation of the most polluting way of waste management in the municipality of Pylos - Nestor is depicted in the following videos filmed the past week at the position of St. Nicholas Mountain, a location of magnificent beauty, by the sea, only 2 km from the deepest spot of the Mediterranean Sea, with one of the most stunning sunsets in the world.

• The infrastructure, the Recycling Plant is already constructed and we need it to be operating fully in an ecological way. (video 2)
• The locals must be personally educated with recycling and composting, first, at their homes. It's a rural location of significant beauty. We gotta respect it starting from our own households. 0 waste is the goal.
• The local government must get more recycling bins and immediately recycle the old metal bins that are dumped at the same spot where the illegal burning and dumping of general waste is taking place now.
• There must be a collaboration with the neighbor Municipalities of Messini and Trifylia for a unified solution. The recycling products are really profitable for the local governments and this will affect the lives of all the residents by lowering their municipal taxes.
• Volunteers and activists got to continue the beach clean ups in collaboration with the Municipality as long as we are guaranteed that the trash will not be blown back to the sea.
• Protect the caretta-caretta sea turtles by cleaning the marine litter immediately.

The specific location where this environmental catastrophe is taking place is between Pylos & Methoni (video 1), next to the NATURA 2000 protected area, and these 2 towns and their residents are being directly affected from this dioxin emissive way of waste management. The locals are smelling the gas emitted from this garbage dump fire. Every cancer case is connected with this way of garbage management being like that for the last 2 decades? This is affecting all of us, our own health, as we are one with our environment.

The windstorms are so often here and we have started all this ACTION as a surf community of nature-lovers-activists, as we witnessed our beloved beaches to be full of plastic and trash and burnt garbage in a non-touristic season, where the visitors are minimum, due to the lockdown as well. The connection of the illegal garbage dumping & burning with the plastic pollution at the coastline is obvious.

ΛΕΙΤΟΥΡΓΙΑ ΤΗΣ ΜΟΝΑΔΑΣ ΟΛΟΚΛΗΡΩΜΕΝΗΣ ΔΙΑΧΕΙΡΙΣΗΣ ΑΠΟΡΡΙΜΜΑΤΩΝ ΣΤΗΝ ΘΕΣΗ ΑΓ.ΝΙΚΟΛΑΟΣ ΠΥΛΟΥ.

Ζητάμε όλοι να ψηφίσουμε για τα παρακάτω αιτήματα:

• Το Κέντρο Διαλογής Ανακυκλώσιμων Υλικών υπάρχει ήδη και φαίνεται σα να υπολειτουργεί. Χρειάζεται να λειτουργήσει τώρα καθώς και η κομποστοποίηση ώστε να μειωθούν τα υπολείμματα απορριμμάτων.
• Πρέπει να γίνει άμεσα προσωπική εκπαίδευση σε όλους τους ντόπιους για ανακύκλωση και κομποστοποίηση στο σπίτι τους. Είμαστε σε μια αγροτική περιοχή που το κόμποστ μας είναι υγιεινό λίπασμα. Πρέπει να προστατεύουμε το περιβάλλον από το σπίτι μας και μηδενικά σκουπίδια είναι ο στόχος του μέλλοντος.
• Ο Δήμος πρέπει να προμηθευτεί άμεσα περισσότερους κάδους ανακύκλωσης και να ζητήσει την ανακύκλωση των μεταλλικών τρύπιων κάδων που είναι κι αυτοί πεταμένοι λίγο πριν την χωματερή αποτελώντας εστία μόλυνσης.
• Να υπάρξει άμεσα συνεργασία με τους όμορους Δήμους Μεσσήνης και Τριφυλίας για ένα κοινό τρόπο ολοκληρωμένης διαχείρισης των απορριμμάτων με οικολογικά και περιβαλλοντικά στάνταρ.
• Εθελοντές κι ακτιβιστές να συνεχίσουν τους καθαρισμούς παραλιών  με τη συνεργασία του Δήμου και τη διαβεβαίωση ότι τα σκουπίδια που μαζεύονται δεν θα καταλήξουν ξανά στη θάλασσα.
• Προστασία της θαλάσσιας χελώνας Καρέττα- Καρέττα και γενικά της θαλάσσιας ζωής με τον υποβρύχιο καθαρισμό του βυθού μας.

 

Οι λόγοι που προβαίνουμε σε αυτό το ψήφισμα είναι προφανείς.

Κάθε κρούσμα καρκίνου στην γύρω περιοχή συνδέεται με την εκπομπή της καρκινογόνου διοξίνης από την καύση απορριμμάτων.

Κάθε θάνατος θαλάσσιας χελώνας από πλαστικά συνδέεται με την παράνομη εναπόθεση στην χωματερή της Πύλου δίπλα στην θάλασσα.

Όλοι μας είμαστε υπεύθυνοι, γι'αυτό ας ψηφίσουμε για να πιέσουμε τους υπευθύνους να δράσουν ΤΩΡΑ με οικολογικό και βιώσιμο τρόπο.
