Mayor Hudson: stop the pattern of deadly accidents on Windermere Parkway x Holborn Way

The Issue

Early morning on Friday, November 12th a cyclist was struck at the intersection of Windermere Parkway and Holborn Way. Less than 12 hours later, a pedestrian was struck at the same intersection and left helplessly struck face down at the edge of the sidewalk. This was the THIRD traumatic accident at this intersection in ONE WEEK.

Our Windermere neighborhood lives on edge, afraid of hearing another screeching sound and crash followed by the rush of neighbors running to the intersection to call 911.

Mayor Hudson, you were elected to keep our children and neighbors SAFE and you are NOT delivering on that promise.

Our neighborhood has asked the Mayor and the City of San Ramon multiple times to place a traffic light at the four-way intersection of Windemere Parkway and Holborn Way for the safety of residents, pedestrians, bicyclists, seniors, and our little children who use that crosswalk to reach their favorite park (Six Pillars), and yet the Mayor and the City of San Ramon have been denying our request for safety due to their own logistical constraints. How many more of our lives are worth your excuses?

In the past 10 years, the four-way intersection of Windemere Parkway and Holborn Way has been deadly for pedestrians and drivers. This intersection has contributed to hundreds of accidents which have traumatized the entire neighborhood.

This Veteran’s Day weekend, a vehicle hit a young pedestrian who had activated the crosswalk lights but still was violently struck unconscious at the intersection. The police and nearby neighbors were unable to identify her as she was rushed to the emergency room; she was on a walk alone and didn’t have identification on her.

THIS should NOT be the reality in San Ramon, we should be able to leave our homes at the end of a long week for a peaceful walk around the block without being faced with such dire circumstances.

Our demand is as follows:

  • Mayor Hudson: We demand you prioritize the safety of residents and immediately install a traffic signal at this four-way intersection before a neighbor’s life is lost.
  • The pedestrian crosswalk lights you have installed are NOT working. We are diligent neighbors who use the light, but it is not keeping us safe.

We cannot live in fear each day. We are traumatized by the sound of sirens rushing to our neighborhood’s core intersection. How many more lives and injuries will be enough for Mayor Hudson and the City of San Ramon to act?
