The City of Phoenix for years has offered opportunities to minority businesses and I always thought this was the mission of the City of Phoenix. But a recent award in Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport goes against what the city’s mission has been and has opted to recommend that a group with mostly out of town business partners receive this contract, while a bid was rejected to a group of businesses that offered the highest percentage of minority participation.

I am very concerned over this and I urge you to make things right and offer local minority businesses an opportunity to do business in the Airport. Out of every dollars spent in local business, 45% of it stays in our communities. The city should be supporting our local economy and keep revenue in our communities.

I believe that the city should be concerned with keeping our local economy strong and supporting our local minority businesses.
