Dear Friend of Pershing Square, After Agence Ter was selected by Pershing Square Renew as the winner in the design competition, we promised to let you know how you can continue to have a voice in the park's future. The first step was to sit down to give their proposal another look. Although it was not our favorite -- James Corner & Frederick Fisher's historically-minded park took that prize -- there's a lot to like in this, and any, predominantly green space. But one thing bothered us about this design (and every semi-finalist's proposal), and it bothered us a lot: nowhere in any of the renderings did we see the historic Pershing Square monuments. Where are the Doughboy, the Spanish American War Memorial (a city landmark), Beethoven or the old iron canon? Where are the plaques to General Pershing placed by the Woodmen of the World? Maybe it's just an oversight. Maybe the plan is to move all the monuments to give Agence Ter a clean slate. Pershing Square Renew hasn't said, so we just don't know. So we're asking you to please sign and share our new petition to Save The Pershing Square Monuments.
