Event permits for Cleveland!

This petition made change with 938 supporters!

Small businesses in Cleveland have all suffered economic loss thanks to the pandemic over the past year, but the small businesses that rely on events taking place in the city for income are currently on hold for lack of event permits, and face further losses. While Mayor Jackson proposes restructuring the event permit division, no permits are being issued. This means event planners can’t plan!

Without appropriate lead time for promotion and all the other work that goes into a successful event, the small businesses that take part in shows inside the city limits on public property such as Cleveland Bazaar, Night Market Cleveland and others in the city will be further harmed.

City Council has Ordinance 287-2021 before them to restructure the events division and make it friendlier for movie production and other outsiders working in Cleveland. However, we call on them today to pressure Mayor Jackson to take action to immediately begin issuing event permits for LOCAL BUSINESSES who are being harmed through the city’s inaction.

Update: after consultation with Councilman Slife (Ward 17), we have learned that the mayor's office is actively standing in the way of getting the permit process back online, not council. You can help by calling or messaging the mayor's office! We have updated the petition's wording accordingly and changed the target to Mayor Jackson rather than Council.
