Keep the Pedestrian Access Walkway a WALKway

Keep the Pedestrian Access Walkway a WALKway
The Issue
The neighborhood of The Preserve, in Hoover, is currently undergoing a massive facelift in the name of progress and neighborhood "beautification". Because of this, we as residents, are experiencing more and more traffic from people who would like to come in and enjoy our public sidewalks and open green spaces. In that breath, we are also seeing residents from neighboring communities coming in via our footpaths on golf carts. These visitors include underaged drivers who are most often times as young as 8 years old and never with an adult. There have been dozens and dozens of complaints by those who live in The Preserve via our community forum, because of the dangerous way these kids drive around our village, playing cat and mouse with runners and attempting to hit children while they are playing in our parks. My own child and her friend are among them. Letters have been written to our management company. Several warnings by neighbors have been issued to our residents via our Facebook page and Hoover police have been called on numerous occasions. To date a simple bollard (which didn't work at keeping the kids out, they ran over my neighbors trees instead) was put up and then taken down. I have explained to our new management company that I will be filing this petition with the city of Hoover as I move forward to address this situation. This petition is to simply request that the footpath remain accessible - by foot - and not by four wheels. With the exception of an actual golf course - no place in the United States allows four wheel traffic on a pedestrian sidewalk. Why can't this be prevented in The Preserve? We propose a reinstallation of bollards, wide enough to allow a wheelchair through but not vehicle traffic and on our side of the footpath, not the Lantana Drive side. Cameras for violators should also be installed. This should fall under the heading of the money we spend on neighborhood security.
