Weekly Update: HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY! Take today to spend it with your family, remember your loved ones and those that fought for our country.
The next city council meeting is next week, Monday the 7th at 7:00PM. Chickens ARE on the agenda, and a vote should be taking place to pursue the amendment of our current ordinance.
A member of our group is in the process of finding reasonably priced yard signs and wishes to order them. She plans to order enough to distribute them among our members, expect to “donate” $1-2 for your sign.
Please prepare to speak during the meeting, either during open comment time at the beginning of the meeting or when city council brings the topic up and allows public comments. EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTS THE CHANGE NEEDS TO ATTEND THE MEETING - We need to prove to the three members who are either against or undecided that this change matters to “more than just a few people.” There is also the option to email the council to have your public comment made written for the meeting.
Even if you don’t plan to have chickens yourself, but you support the change, SPEAK UP. Even if your comment consists of only saying “My name is _____, and I support backyard chickens in Hastings.” or something along those lines. If you’ve prepared facts that you wish to share, please do. If you wish to state why you want chickens, please do.
To make this change happen, for this movement to be successful, we need to continue standing together and showing our support. Email or Call the Council Members, Make a Public Comment via Email, Speak during the meeting via Phone or Video Chat.
Please support the movements further by sharing the petition to your local friends, neighbors, and in the community. The more signatures we can obtain from our Hastings Residents, the better! You can find the petition here: www.change.org/HastingsChickens
