We now have over 1,850 signatures! These signatures and especially the comments evidence a groundswell of support for re-imagining, rebuilding and re-opening the Metro as a film/performance/cafe fine arts space. Thank you, everyone for signing, sharing and promoting!

There are some exciting developments:

A) Liza Cooper and Joshua Silk have proposed a Metro Theater  related photography project entitled, Metro Dreams! To draw interest, partnership, support and financing for the restoration and revitalization of Metro Theater, Liza and Josh are launching the #MetroDreams campaign which will feature photographic portraits of Upper West Side denizens – everyday folks, celebrities and politicians with Metro Theater in the background. Included with the portraits will be memories of what the theater was and dreams of what the theater could become.

B) Lauren Flick may produce a Metro Theater film!

C) In response to many requests from people who want to get more involved, the Metro Theater petition campaign team created:  Friends of Metro Theater—A nonprofit entity dedicated to bringing back the Metro Theater as a theater. Stay tuned as we develop a website and figure out how to collect donations and volunteers.

We still have three online discussion forums:

UWS Metro Theater Lovers (Facebook)

Metro Theater UWS--private group (Facebook)

Friends of USW Metro Theater (Nextdoor)

Please consider sharing a photo or story on social media, writing a letter to the editor or (if you live in NY) writing or making phone calls to elected officials regarding the Metro. If you are a Wikipedia writer/editor please consider making a page for Metro Theater (New York).

We are still planning to write to City Hall to schedule a meeting with Bill de Blasio when we have 2,021 signatures. Less than 200 signatures to go! Thank you again for continued sharing and caring!
