The Metro Theater petition is enjoying a second wind thanks to Ian Franzen. Ian took a photo of me handing out flyers and posted it on “Nextdoor”—a social media app that lets you meet your neighbors. Since then the signatures have been rolling in briskly. We are rapidly approaching 1,500 signatures.
In the lively “Nextdoor” discussion that followed Ian’s post, Alan Baily kindly posted a review of the DOB filings for the building. "plans have been filed, but not approved, to change the interior of the building to a retail use. The most recent filings are in April 2021. Construction has not started. They don't have approved plans or a permit for construction."
Laurie Marshall reported walking by when the doors were open a few days ago and seeing workers.

"Bill Moyers once reminded me, that we all have a moral imperative not just to entertain ourselves, but to create venues where people can gather and be reminded that who we are, as a society, is dependent upon the health of our culture and that the very essence of what it means to be human and humane is dependent upon a constant exchange of ideas, inspiration and experience. A reimagined Metro could provide that. "--Debbie Rosenberg
