Save The Water Dragon Sanctuary at Smalls Creek/Caddies Creek

The issue

Hills Shire Council have notified residents that they intend to place a 3 metre wide concrete path through the Water Dragon Sanctuary between Chevron Place and Milford Drive Rouse Hill. This is part of Smalls Creek, land which is owned and managed by Sydney Water.

The impact on both the Water Dragons and other creatures who share this habitat will be significant. It will also require the taking down of mature trees etc.

Residents who walk or ride the existing pathway often see the Water Dragons using the very area designated for destruction as their "Sun" spot. The sanctuary also provides refuge for the creatures in the creek area in times of flood.

Children and adults enjoy seeing the Dragons. Sydney Water claims to “Conserve natural environments and cultural heritage in our care” and yet they are prepared to allow the Council to go ahead and destroy this biodiverse area. Once its gone its gone and the Council plan to do this by the end of 2019.

You can speak up for the creatures affected especially the Water Dragons. Please sign this petition and keep this area safe and allow everyone to enjoy this special area for all time.

We demand that:

1.The Hills Shire Council scrap this project. It is totally unnecessary given there are already paths in place which serve the same purpose without causing the destruction of this natural habitat.

2. Sydney water refuse The Hills Shire Council permission to build the path across    their land

3. Both Sydney Water and The Hills Shire Council honour their respective public environmental statements and protect the biodiversity of this and other areas in and around Smalls Creek and Caddies Creek.
