Build a rooftop playspace for students at PS 166
Build a rooftop playspace for students at PS 166
The Issue
PS 166 is a diverse community of over 1200 students from across Long Island City and Western Queens. Many years ago, the school was expanded to meet the needs of the growing community and built a new wing on the existing playground, leaving a small outdoor courtyard play space. Now, due to the tight space of the existing courtyard, children at PS 166 can only have recess ONCE per week.
Numerous studies have shown that regular physical activity improves academic performance and student wellness. Children at PS 166 cannot participate in daily physical activity due to the limitations of the current school grounds and space.
Parents, teachers, and students at PS 166 support the construction of a rooftop play space. This will dramatically increase the square footage of play space in the building. Our children deserve to attend an academically challenging, nurturing school in an environment that fosters wellness and physical activity. Please support our school, our kids, and our community by turning this dream into a reality.
