Hello Ice Rink Supporters, Breaking news. SPI is asking the City to fast track consideration of a new proposal for the (non-operational) Bridgepointe Ice Rink. The specifics of this proposal are still uncertain, but it will likely involve a large increase from the $3+1 million offer that was unanimously rejected by the Council in April. Ordinarily, developers must wait a full year between applications. Mayor Joe Goethals has said that he will consider waiving the one year waiting period if SPI's proposal is significantly better. Please leave a comment on the Daily Journal website with your thoughts. How much should SPI be required to pay towards a new $15 million rink? Should SPI be required to open the Bridgepointe rink until a new rink can be built? The Council will tentatively consider the acceleration request on November 7. We will let you know when this date is confirmed. Thanks again for your continued support. Sincerely, Mike Swire Committee to Save the San Mateo Ice Rink
