Save & Expand Feral Cat Sanctuaries on Hilton Head Island

Thousands of feral, abandoned & homeless cats call Hilton Head Island, SC home. With over 200 restaurants on the Island, the feral cats are fundamental in keeping the rodent population in check. The rescue group All About Cats (AAC) works to spay/neuter, care for and adopt out as many cats as possible. Since just 2016, AAC has helped spay/neuter over 800 cats. While many cats do find loving homes with people, that is not always the case. There are many cats who are too feral to be placed, and sadly, also very many adoptable cats that just don’t find homes. For 2 years AAC has maintained a privately funded and managed cat sanctuary on an acre of land on the Island, where all cats are fed and cared for. Recently, the town has cited the property owner, and the future of this vital sanctuary is at risk. The citation has been appealed and there is a hearing in late June that will decide the outcome.
We are asking the Town of Hilton Head for their support to not only keep the current sanctuary going, but also to establish multiple new feral cat sanctuaries on public grounds, with assigned colony managers to serve 2 year terms. There will need to be several locations to minimize the impact of the cats on local wildlife.
Last year alone, AAC trapped over 500 cats to have them spayed/neutered. This equates to having prevented over 100,000 future kittens! Having these sanctuaries is imperative in keeping the cats healthy, and reducing the overall feral population.
