Mayor Bublak pays TurlockCityNews $100k with Public Funds
The Issue
Mayor Bublak awarded a controversial political blog TurlockCityNews.com, $100k of federal funding to operate a "business development program".
Turlock City News has gained notoriety for its unique, amateur style of political blogging. The owner has acknowledged his page greatly influences our local elections. The contract awarded by the city coincides with the election cycle (expiring in November), and many have already noted that the "Turlock Homeless Capital" signage on Pressert Marketing's storefront has no longer been displayed following the execution of this contract.
The $425k was originally intended to go toward RAD Card, a program very popular with businesses and local consumers that increases their spending power. Additional eligible activities for this funding would be roads, sidewalks, lighting, affordable housing, and much more. Following meetings with the community, Turlock residents provided feedback on their preferred spending. No member of the public indicated a desire for this particular service.
By signing the below, you are telling the Mayor Bublak that this decision was ill-advised and must be reversed; that this funding should be withdrawn and redirected to align with public sentiment rather than towards a contract many will perceive as a distribution of public funds to a political blog, in a quid-pro-quo agreement for positive reporting through the election cycle.
