Bring a long-awaited hotel to downtown Waltham
The Issue
There are long-standing plans to bring a hotel to Moody Street in downtown Waltham. The developer has presented these plans to many and to great acclaim, but the necessary legal issues have been stuck with the City of Waltham's Law Department for many months. We, as residents and friends of Waltham, ask the Mayor and City Solicitor to prioritize and expedite this work so that the hotel can come to fruition.
A hotel in downtown Waltham will bring tourists (including visitors to our universities and those visiting Boston itself) and business people downtown. These guests might otherwise stay in other cities or, if staying in Waltham, along the 128 corridor where they will not experience the bulk of what Waltham has to offer. Being downtown will increase business to restaurants and retail establishments and, in general, improve the quality of the city. The venue promises to host cultural attractions which will also brighten up Waltham.
Everyone (including the Mayor, from her public comments) who hears about the hotel understand that it is a major win for Waltham. It is frustrating that the City has seemingly de-prioritized the straightforward legal work needed to make this happen. Please fix this.
